 710 Issue!

As I have read most of these posts made on this 710 Issue,I'm puzzeled as to why many on here who think there soo highly Educated and Know all there is to know on this issue, have never mentioned the cost of this 710 Extension Project in conjunction with the entire street situation and the time period which this would take for citizens residing in Alhambra,South Pasadena,El Sereno, and Pasadena cities.

Also, have any of those on both sides of this Issue ever thought of maybe funding a Lower Build Method where a Train or Trolley can transport people to their work or other desired destination? If so, you can also save money by doing such a thing and maybe adding a couple Bike path's for those who love to go biking which would also reduce polution and cars on the streets and Highways. No Joke!

As for the 710,I sure wouldn't want to fund or pay Taxes for a project that's only 4-6 miles long for Billions of Dollars and would like to imagine that many others would agree.

To some degree you can make a fair argument that by Building the 710 you would take traffic off the streets of Pasadena and South Pasadena. However, what I'm afraid of would be that all the traffic being eliminated would just clogg the streets again with all those people making their way back from work and that it would be no more different than had you not built the 710 in the first Place. You still would not get rid of Traffic and all the Highway Stubs would be clogged and make a real mess.Pasadena Ave. and St.Johns would be closed and also ,the 110 Freeway which I cant see happening.

I would also like to ask all of you who support and Fight the 710,How would such a project if it were built, effect such Colossal events such as the Tournament of Roses,Rose Parade and Rose bowl Game?

Very Good question, love to hear some of your input on this matter and what effects it would have on major roads and events.

God Bless and have a nice and safe Easter Holiday. Those who are Jewish have a nice Passover.

By the way,I used to live in Alhambra and have been living in Chicago,IL for going on 12 years now.

Also, what do you do about creating "Cut and Cover"Tunnels?

If you build them, does the cost of the Cut and Cover tunnels be included in the cost of the 710 Freeway,or is there a seperate charge for the cut and cover tunnels?

Which Streets would be effected by these tunnels?

What about Earth Quakes? Is it safe to ride underneath a tunnel and basically underneath a portion of the route?

Again,Just curious!

As far as the Politics of the 710 Extension, how would Government and Privately Owned Businesses benefit from the extension of the 710?

Sorry,I could have found a place to put this subject in with my most rescent post, but did'nt dawn upon me until I was done asking all my questions.

Didn't mean to come off like a know it all either in the beginning of my very first post. Please excuse me if I sounded that way.Thanx!

Hi, you've asked a lot of questions and I can't answer them all, but I'll address one here. You said:

> can transport people to their work or other desired destination?

Unfortunately, our California "I love my car (more than my wife)" culture precludes this. The Metro Gold Line between Pasadena and Los Angeles is a failure in the sense that hardly anyone rides it into downtown L.A. Every day I watch it go by with just a few people in each of the four cars (down to two cars during off hours and weekends). For most people, the stops aren't near where they need to go, and no one wants to walk very far in downtown L.A. or Pasadena, or anywhere.

There was/is a Low Build method designed by the City of South Pasadena, which emphasizes (among many things) coordination of traffic lights, which Alhambra has purposely stumped for years by timing their lights to halt traffic rather than move it forward. Now they've got an ongoing Fremont St. "improvement" project that is really doing more harm than good (again, probably their intention), and now they plan on building a "big box" store on the corner of Fremont and Mission Road (the one in Alhambra near Valley, not the one in South Pasadena). This should really mire things up even more. It's as if Alhambra is punishing everyone for the lack of the freeway, which they believe will revitalize their city by pulling tony Pasadena residents down into Alhambra to buy at their stores instead of their own. Fat chance!

No one in their right mind would bike here in Southern California! Just kidding. It's a nice idea, but it would hardly make a dent in the traffic we now have, and the increasing problem we will have in the future.
